Cycling without supports for the first time, cooking something and putting salt without help of mother, getting on to the stage for the first time, confessing your feelings for someone. Doing something for the first time is always difficult.
Its kind of similar feeling when I had to perform that task, just to become one of them. I had never done it before though I’ve seen other kids doing it effortlessly.
Well, the task was to catch a grasshopper or a dragonfly.
No, the task doesn’t end here. After catching it you have to tie a thread (saddi) to their tail and make them fly, holding the other end of thread. It was their flying pet. Hahahahaa. If you think if it now, it might seem cruel or gross, but for those boys it was just part of their fun game.
I was lucky that time. I had a friend there who would help me in this. His name was Manjeet. He taught me three lessons. First, he told me to go to the back side of grasshopper, as it won’t jump or fly long and is easier to catch (as compared to dragonfly). From back, it’s a little less responsive. Second, he asked me to be calm while catching it because if in a hurry I leap to it then it would jump and hide itself in those long grass. And last, he told me to hold it gently and learn to tie a knot to its tail from a single hand.
Now, I was all set for this task. I had been taught all the lessons I would be needing to become one of them.
Be patient guys, it’s a story of me going back to home from school and the sun is still shining.
