Now, it was time. I took out my hanky and covered my face. There is a stingy smell when you are around too many insects. Not pleasant at all.
Well, Manjeet was walking with me. Trying to find an easy prey for me. He spotted a grasshopper and asked me to go for this one. It was one big, kind of a giant to me. I totally denied. He said it would be easier to tie a knot at this one. But I still denied.
On one mind I wanted that somehow all these grasshoppers hide themselves somewhere and Manjeet won’t find even one for me. But it was not going to happen. Every second minute he had a decent prey for me. And I was trying to find different excuses for each one of them. But, after 10 minutes he won’t listen to me anymore. So I had to yield.
I find one grasshopper of average size and went for that. I knew that every boy of my class was standing behind me and looking at me, tension grew up. When I looked up, even the girls stopped their play and watched me catch it, tension mounted up. Pheww.… It was a lot.
I took out my hanky and used it to cover my hands to grab one, but it was against their rules. I was like, are their any rules at all?
I walked slowly and stretched my hand toward one and by mistake swayed the grass a little too much. The grasshopper jumped and hid itself. Haha. I was happy that it hid itself and happier because now I knew what to do to save me from this task. I performed this task praying that recess bell rings and I run back to my class. Manjeet sensed it, he got angry. Grabbed one grasshopper and placed it in my hand.
Oh god! There was an insect crawling over my hand. Eeewww… it was creepy. I closed my eyes and continuously asked Manjeet to take it off my hand. But he didn’t. He pinched me hard so that I open my eyes, and he really pinched hard. Now my focus turned on him, how dare he pinch me so hard when I am already dealing with something else?
He instantly placed thread on my other hand and asked me to tie. I did that, I did that disgustingly. Yuck!
I still have these goosebumps just remembering that scene. But I did tied that.
Now, I was one of them. There won’t be anymore discrimination.
Now, there wasn’t any sweat because of this task, only of the shining sun. Few more hours for school off.
